Overview

Sing Our Story is our Flagship Songwriting programme designed to support the wellbeing and confidence of children and young people through involving their whole family in a unique creative process.

Working with the parents and carers alongside their children musicians work with families through a three-stage process to co-write and record special songs based on the child’s unique story, interests, and identity.

Children who take part grow in language skills, communication, confidence and emotional expression. We also give teachers practical tools for inclusive music‑making through tailored training opportunities and this project builds stronger connections between schools and families.

Alongside schools and nursery settings we also have a range of partnerships and tailor the offer for specific groups. This includes work with disabled children, Portage services, Young Lives Vs Cancer, and virtual schools and services supporting care experienced children. Recently the programme has expanded to work with secondary aged young people in Special Needs and Alternative provision.

Our team of experienced songwriters has created original personalised songs with more than 3,000 children and families across London and in Galway Ireland. We have also worked with other partner organisations to pilot the project in the North East and the South West of England.

What you say...

The project brought out the great things we have done together as a family but when we had never given any serious consideration. Now we appreciate those things more and we don't take them for granted.

Family

The Sing Our story project has been an incredible experience – staff, children and families being involved in this way has started the year in a way that supports this connection with school and home as well as drives the focus on singing within the classroom environment.

Early Years Lead

The sing our story activities really engaged both children and parents, in stimulating ways to interact and enjoy language that focused on children's stories. This provided much laughter and enjoyment stimulating rhyme, song and conversation. The inclusive and imaginative activities both engage and upskill those involved, raising the quality of interactions, and enabling all our children to take part.
Groundswell Arts fully embraces our vision and values.
